History & Tradition

Stelline, meaning 'little stars,' are part of Italy's enormous family of pastine minute, the tiny factory-made shapes that populate the Italian pasta universe. These miniature shapes were given fanciful names by the popular imagination, including stars (stelle, stellette, stelline, stelloni), weather phenomena like tempestine (little storms) and grandinine (little hailstones), and countless other whimsical forms. Stelline are used primarily in broths and light soups, particularly for children and the elderly.
